The Great Saltee Adventure 2022

Well I’m just back from exactly what the title suggests and it was pure magic. This was my second year heading out to the Saltees to visit the Puffins amongst the other various species of bird inhabitants on the Island and both visits have left me in awe of the absolute beauty of the Island.

Owned by the Neal family since 1943, The Saltee Islands are a pair of small Islands that lie approx 5 KM off of the coast of Wexford. The Islands and its surrounds are a Special Protection Area and therefore care must be given when visiting. To get there, you must book your place on the only Ferry that sails across to the Islands via www.salteeferry.com. Tickets are approx 30 Euro per Adult return and includes the Rib transfer to the beach too. The ferry then leaves you on the Island for a duration of approx 3.5 hours before it returns and brings you straight back into Kilmore Quay. A packed lunch is a necessity aswell as some rain gear, comfortable footwear, a bin for your rubbish and some snacks to keep you going along your walk. A towel is also recommended for the wet feet having waded through the water from the rib.
