October 2020 - Malahide Castle and Gardens

How is it October already? This year has been the fastest and craziest year by far! It’s nearly Christmas again, and I feel like we only got over last Christmas!

Last week I somehow injured my back which resulted in this week, so far, being an absolute write off. However, today I popped a few painkillers and we went out to Malahide Castle Gardens for a wee wander. I’ve been dying to get out and about to take some new shots as I had been posting take back pics on Insta for the past few days. I wanted and needed something fresh.

What I learnt today is that when it comes to macro photography, having a dodgy back and trying to shoot stuff up close is not a good combo. I would like to say that it was worth it, but my back begs to differ with me. (As I slug on my mahusive glass of vino beside me - Medicinal purposes of course…cough cough)

We ventured into the Butterfly house first and we had the whole place to ourselves. Soooo, we decided to get naked……masks off! (don’t be filthy lol). Such a nice feeling not having to wear the masks whilst in the roasting temps inside the greenhouse. I forgot completely to wrap the lens part of my camera in a zip lock bag before heading in, this helps with the lens fog and temp adjustment, so it took a good 20 mins before I could actually use the camera and see anything through it.

The Butterfly house was sparse as the little beauties haven’t hatched fully yet, but it was still as beautiful as ever. We then went on to visit the walled garden. Obviously with it being October, everything is dying off but with that being said, it’s still spectacular and the deep tones of all the ‘leftovers’ is beautiful. I decided to shoot a few pics for a possible ‘last of the autumn daze’ theme on Instagram. Sure we’ll see how that goes.

Malahide Castle and Gardens really is a stunning place to visit. The grounds are kept up so well and after a stroll around, you can still grab a takeaway coffee from Avoca.

Stay safe and positive xx
